Selah is a Christian journaling app designed to help you reflect, pray, track habits, and engage with scripture. Your privacy is a core part of the product.
This Privacy Policy explains what data Selah uses, how it is stored, and when data is shared.
Selah may process the following categories of information:
Selah is built to keep your personal data private.
Your personal records, including journals, prayers, habits, gratitude, scripture saves, sermon notes, notes, quotes, people, and bucket list items, are stored locally on your device and may sync through your personal iCloud / CloudKit storage tied to your Apple account.
Selah does not make one user's private records visible to another user.
Selah includes shared content only in specific features: the curated daily devotional, Circle prayer content you intentionally post to a Circle, and Global prayer wall posts you intentionally submit.
The daily devotional is app-wide content created for all users. Circle and Global prayer content are shared only when you choose to post to those areas.
Custom devotionals generated from your own verse remain private to you unless Selah explicitly states otherwise in the future.
Selah includes optional social prayer features. Participation is always your choice — your personal prayer records are never affected by these features.
Personal prayer remains entirely on-device and private. It is never sent to any server.
Circle prayer lets you share prayer requests with a small, invite-only group. When you join or create a Circle, your Apple account identifier is sent to the Selah backend server to create your account and establish your membership. Messages you post in a Circle are visible to other members of that Circle. A Circle-specific display name you choose is stored with your messages.
Global prayer is an anonymous prayer wall. Posts are anonymous by default — your name is not shown unless you explicitly choose to reveal your identity. Your Apple account identifier is used server-side to associate the post with your account for moderation purposes, but is not displayed to other users.
The Selah social prayer backend is operated by the developer. Data stored by the backend includes your Apple user identifier, circle memberships and display names, circle prayer messages, and global prayer wall posts. This data is stored on a privately operated server and is not sold or shared with third parties.
Selah provides tools to report prayer content, hide prayer content from your view, and block users from appearing in shared prayer areas. Reported content may be reviewed by the developer or an authorized administrator, and content may be removed when needed for safety or policy reasons.
If you delete a post or message, it is removed from the server. If you delete your account in Settings, Selah attempts to delete your connected social prayer profile and associated shared prayer content from the Selah backend.
Circle and Global prayer features allow users to post content that may be visible to other users. By participating, you agree not to post content that is harmful, abusive, or violates applicable law.
Selah reserves the right to remove content that violates community standards or is reported by other users. Moderation decisions are made by the developer or authorized administrators. Users who post harmful content may have their content removed or their access to social prayer features restricted.
If you encounter content that concerns you, use the in-app report feature or contact support at jacoby@jacobycoffin.com.
Selah uses Sign in with Apple for authentication.
Selah may store your Apple user identifier securely in the iOS Keychain so your sign-in state can persist across launches. If Apple provides your name during first sign-in, Selah may store your preferred display name locally to personalize the app experience.
If you use social prayer features, your Apple identity token is exchanged with the Selah backend to establish a secure session. The backend stores your Apple user identifier to associate your social prayer activity with your account.
If you use voice journal features, Selah may request access to your microphone and speech recognition. Speech input is used to transcribe your spoken journal content into text. This feature depends on Apple platform services and permissions.
If you import sermon note images, Selah uses on-device OCR to extract text from those images. This processing is intended to happen locally on your device.
If you enable notifications, Selah stores your reminder preferences locally and may schedule local notifications for daily devotional reminders, streak reminders, prayer check-ins, and admin devotional planning reminders.
If you use custom verse devotional generation, Selah may send the selected verse text and reference to the devotional generation server configured for the app in order to generate devotional content.
The devotional generation server is operated by the developer. Requests are used to generate devotional content and are not used for advertising or sold to third parties.
Selah does not currently include third-party advertising and is intended to avoid invasive tracking and behavioral advertising.
If analytics or additional third-party services are added later, this Privacy Policy should be updated before those changes are released.
Selah does not share your private journals, personal prayers, or other personal records with other users.
The curated daily devotional is shared app-wide. Circle prayer content is shared with members of your Circle. Global prayer posts are shared publicly on the prayer wall, anonymously by default.
Selah may rely on Apple platform services, including iCloud / CloudKit, Sign in with Apple, Speech, and notification services, as part of providing the app.
Selah does not sell your data to third parties.
Your personal data remains in your device storage and/or your personal iCloud-backed storage unless you delete it. If you delete content inside the app, that content may also be removed from synced storage depending on Apple's sync behavior.
If you sign out, Selah may remove locally stored sign-in related values such as your saved display name, while your synced records may still exist in your personal iCloud storage unless separately deleted. Signing out does not delete your account or synced records. Use Delete Account in Settings if you want to delete your account data.
Social prayer data (Circle memberships, messages, and Global posts) is stored on the Selah backend server. Deleting a post or message removes it from the server. You can initiate account deletion inside the app from Settings > Delete Account. Account deletion removes local Selah data from the app and requests deletion of your connected social prayer profile and associated social prayer content from the Selah backend.
Selah is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children in violation of applicable law.
Selah uses Apple platform security features where applicable, including Keychain and Apple account-based storage systems. Social prayer data is transmitted over HTTPS. No method of storage or transmission is guaranteed to be completely secure, but Selah is designed to minimize unnecessary exposure of personal data.
This Privacy Policy may be updated over time. If material changes are made, the updated version should be published before or at the time those changes are released.
